Patient Cath Pre Procedure Instruction: |

The
Night Before Procedure:
-
If you take daily medications, please make a list of your
medications and dosages. Please bring this list with you.
Please list any allergies to medications or foods that
you may have as well.
Note: Please bring all medication
with you in their Pharmacy Bottles.

We
are not authorized to give any medication that is not
ill the original pharmacy bottle.
-
Do
Not eat or drink anything After Midnight.
-
If
you are diabetic do not take any diabetic medication the
day of the procedure.
If you take Glucophage do not take your dose on the day
of procedure or the next two days follow the procedure.
-
If
you are on Coumadin, hold (do not take) 4 dosages before your procedure.
You may take your other morning medications with a small
sip of water.
-
If
you are allergic to IVP dye - you will need a prescription
for Prednisone, Benadryl and Pepcid.
Prednisone 40mg in A.M., and 40mg in P.M. the
day before the procedure and 40 mg the morning procedure.
Benadryl 50mg by mouth the morning and evening the day
before the procedure.
Pepcid 20mg by mouth the morning and evening the day before
the procedure.
The Morning of
Your Procedure:
- Bath or shower, to
reduce the chance of infection.
- Do not wear makeup
or nail polish.
- Be at the facility
at the time given to you. Your procedure could be cancelled
if you do not arrive in adequate
- Wear clothing that
is easy to take off and put on, no pantyhose or high heeled
shoes.
- Leave your valuables
at home.
- If you wear glasses,
contacts or hearing aids, bring along a case to store them
in while you are in procedure.
- If you wear dentures,
removable bridgework, etc., they must be removed before
the procedure.
- If you have a cold,
a fever of 100 degrees F or higher ,a skin rash or an infection
of any kind notify your before coming in for
your procedure, it may not necessarily need to be postponed
.
- Smokers should not
smoke for 24 to 48 hours before procedure, to enhance breathing.
- You do not need a suitcase
or a change of clothing. Please note that if you are coming
in from out of town your significant other may want to pack
a small suitcase, in the event that may need to be admitted
to the hospital.

After
Your Procedure:
- After you leave the procedure room,
you will return to the same recovery room for the remainder
of your stay and be cared for by our trained staff. You
will be given a light meal, and prepared for your return
home.
- For your own safety, a responsible
adult must drive you home.
- Someone responsible should stay
with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure.

Special
Tips:
- If you have any significant problems,
please contact your physician. If you are unable to reach
your physician ( 911).
- You will receive a telephone call
the following day after the procedure from one of our staff
members, to inquiry how you
are feeling, If you have any questions or concerns, please
discuss them with the caller.
- Space is limited, so please limit
the number of family members to two (2). They are welcome
to wait or we can call when
you are ready to go home.
- Times vary, but you can plan that
you will be with us from 1 to 5 hours.
- Please notify the staff if you are
on your menstrual cycle or if there is a possibility of
you being pregnant, the procedure may need to be cancelled
or rescheduled.
I understand that admission to the hospital
may be a possibility if my physician so decides. |
